dc.description.abstract Water is an essential component of the environment and it sustains life on the earth. The value of groundwater lies in its not only widespread occurrence and availability, but also in its consistent good quality. In recent times, increasing focus is being given to study groundwater chemical contaminations. Since it is directly in contact with soil. The aim of this study is to evaluate the quality of water of Umtalha village wells water in Terms of pH, TDS, total hardness as CaCO3 determination for water sample before and after boiling anions of (Cl¯, CO3-2, HCO3¯ ) and cations of (Na+, K+, Ca2+). 25 samples were collected from 5 wells of the village and stored into two litres plastic bottles. The pH and TDS were measured using the pH meter and conductimeter, K+, Na+ with flame photometer and Cl¯, CO3-2, HCO3¯, Ca2+ and hardness were determined by titration. After boiling the water and analyse it for hardness. The results obtained were as follows : the pH in the range 7.25-7.45, the TDS, Na, K, Ca2+,Cl¯, CO3-2 and HCO3¯ were in the range (398-486), (28-68), (1.76-3.5), (96.56-126.68), (31.8-56), (0) and (282.5-369.8 ppm), respectively. The hardness was in the range (262.8-278 ppm), (165.5-175.1 ppm), before and after boiling respectively. The obtained results showed that all parameters were at the recommended limit of the Sudanese standard and the standard of World Health Organization for Drinking Water. The results have shown that CO32- ions are absent in all samples and all samples are classified as hard. It is there for concluded that the water of Umtalha can be used for purposes. The study recommended a further analysis of the canal water as it also may be a source of water for the village. en_US
