Abstract:
Growth monitoring in first five years is profound in child health promotion. This is descriptive cross-sectional hospital based study conducted at WadMadani Pediatric Hospital , the study aimed to assess nurses’ knowledge about growth monitoring for under five , the convenient sampling was used to select 49 nurses during the period in September 2019 to February 2020 , data was collected using self-administered questionnaire deigned for the purpose of the study ,data was analyzed using statistical packaging of social sciences SPSS .The study result showed that the majority ( 91%, 90%, 73%) of study population had adequate knowledge regarding definition, objectives and important of growth monitoring .respectively while (61%,75%) had adequate knowledge about the normal weight gain of children from birth to three years and steps In growth monitoring respectively and (45%) had moderate adequate knowledge about when to start growth monitoring and how often also (92%,76%,88% ) had adequate knowledge about the five measurements of body size are commonly used in children ,equipment used in measurements and the correct way of weight measured young children respectively while ( 71%,82%,60%) had adequate knowledge about the correct way of weight measured older children ,the correct way of height and length measured and the correct way of height and length measured Infant respectively . also (90%, 88%,86%) had adequate knowledge about the correct way of head circumference measured , the growth chart and growth curve respectively and ( 68%,96%,) of study population had adequate knowledge about common growth patterns and discussing the child’s growth and follow-up action needed, with the mother respectively and the majority ( 93%,97%,97%) of study population had adequate knowledge about nursing role ,measuring the newborn and advice the mother about feeding. respectively .The study concluded to that the majority ( 82%,) of study population had adequate knowledge about growth monitoring . The study recommended that to continue in-service training .
