Abstract:
Educational supervision is regarded as an important part of organizing and administrating educational policies ,which is directly related to developing teachers' abilities for the quality of students learning as the ultimate goal. This study aims at investigating the opinions of English language teachers about the role of English language supervision on teachers' development, by casting light on the actual role played by English language supervisors in schools. The study used a questionnaire for English language teachers , and an interview for English language supervisors, as tools to collect data. About 70 teachers responded to 25 items distributed among four educational domains in the questionnaire designed to the study, beside, 10 English language supervisors answered the interview questions. The results indicated that, the role of English language supervision was almost negative on the four domains of the study, In addition to English language supervisors practice only classroom observation method and most teachers dissatisfied with the current supervision activities in their schools . The study recommended that, English language supervisors must use various modern supervision methods. Also, the study suggested that ,the Ministry of education specify standards for selecting and appointing English language supervisors.
