Abstract:
The continuous hikes of energy price and consumption have motivated researchers for further operation improvement, safety and efficiency of energy resources. The steam boiler as a part of power plants requires a sophisticated control system. This work is aiming at applying a control system on steam boiler using conventional control systems and stability analysis for such systems. Furthermore, the model predictive control (MPC) has been investigated for the same purpose. The general stability of the control system using PID was defined before and after tuning. The model predictive control (MPC) was applied to control boiler level and steam temperature. The obtained results of MPC were compared with those of PID control system. The results approved that the MPC has great potentials to adjust the desired parameter values compared to the traditional control system. The MPC is even easier to tune and better in MATLAB documentation m file. Further work should be carried out on the MPC control system to be inclusive to cover the overall steam power plant.
