dc.description.abstract Preeclampsia (PE) has a serious impact for both mother and foetus . with an increase in cases every year. This is a prospective descriptive hospital based study involving 105 women (60 cases &45 control) delivered at Wad Medani Obstetrics’ & Gynecology Teaching Hospital between Jan. 2010 & April 2012. Of these 25 % were primigravidae & 75% were multigravidae. The test cases showed high blood pressure, albuminuria & lower limb edema. The main aim was to look for histological changes in preeclampsia placenta using routine histopathology stains E/H. The histopathological features attributed to preeclampsia in hematoxylin and eosin stained placental sections were per villous fibrin, villous arteriopathy& per villous ischemia. There was statistically significant decrease in placental weight and birth weight in preeclampsia group compared to control group. The study concluded that PE has a serious impact on both mother & foetus in Gezira Estate and without proper treatment it may lead to aharmful outcome both to the mother and to the fetus & it may needed to terminate the pregnancy to save the mother life .So we recommended more effort should be done regarding folloup and proper timely management for women during antenatal period. en_US
