dc.description.abstract Hypertension is important public health challenge in both economically developing and non-developed countries; it’s one of risk factor for cardiovascular mortality. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factor of hypertension in population living in JabalAulia locality .It was community –based cross sectional study conducted in JabalAulia locality , study participant were adult male and female age 18-75 years , questionnaire was used to collect data and analysis was done using spss version 16 . Result of 248 participant 58,9 were female , mean age 36,4 (SD) (13.7)years and 71% of participant were single(un married) prevalence of hypertension was 19.0% ,its more higher in female( 55.3%) than male (44.7%) and also more higher in married (55.3%) than un married (42%) . Hypertension was significantly high in individual with increasing age, smoke tobacco, sedentary lifestyle, low physical activity, family history and obesity. with exception age and gender all the risk factors of hypertension identified were potentially modifiable. en_US
